American Bar Association Business Law Fall Meeting 2023
Read Time: 1 minThree McGlinchey attorneys will present during the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Business Law Fall Meeting 2023 at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk in Chicago, Illinois, September 7-9, 2023.
Lynette Hotchkiss (Nashville) will co-present “See Her, Hear Her: Historical Evolution, Advocacy, and the Path Ahead,” which will begin with a discussion about the history of women in the legal profession and the barriers they have faced, how the role of women in the legal profession has evolved over time, and how it has been impacted by social, political, and legal changes. They will then address the importance of advocacy and activism for advancing the rights and opportunities of women in the legal profession, as well as the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
Robert Savoie (Cleveland) will moderate a CLE Program titled “True Lender and Rate Exportation: Analyzing the Impact of State Laws Restricting Bank Originated Loans.” A number of states have passed “true lender” legislation seeking to limit the interest rates imposed through FinTech bank partnership programs, and more proposed legislation is in the queue in other states. During this session, panelists will discuss recent legislation and the impact state laws will have on the financial landscape.
Sandy Shatz (Irvine) will moderate a roundtable on “State Data Privacy Laws and the Exemptions for Financial Services Companies and Data,” during which participants will discuss the scope of various exemptions under state-level data privacy laws, whether they apply to financial services companies, and how companies can prepare for existing laws as well as those under consideration.
