Cannabis in the Workplace

States are increasingly passing legislation legalizing the use of marijuana (either for medicinal purposes or for recreational use). However, marijuana remains illegal as a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act. This adversity between state and federal laws results in an environment rife with uncertainties for businesses, small and large.

Of Counsel Chase Stoecker (Fort Lauderdale) and Associate Andrew Albritton (New Orleans) will present a myLawCLE Webinar, “Cannabis in the Workplace,” on August 17, 2023. This presentation will explore recent state laws that have been passed that address marijuana use in the workplace, federal workplace laws which apply to the cannabis industry, workplace safety in the cannabis industry, drug testing laws, the intersection of federal and state laws, and more. They will give a brief overview of cannabis, marijuana, hemp and cannabinoids, then discuss state law developments addressing marijuana use by current and prospective employees, federal workplace laws which apply to the cannabis industry, and best practices for employers to ensure they are complying with both federal and state laws regarding employee marijuana use.
