- FinTech Legal Payments and Lending – USA: Robert Savoie (One of four attorneys ranked in Band One)
The 2023 guide marks the third consecutive year in which McGlinchey has been recognized by Chambers as a leading firm in FinTech. According to Chambers, “McGlinchey Stafford’s regulatory compliance specialist group is held in high regard for its expertise in lending and money transmitter licensing work.”
Robert Savoie, Chair of McGlinchey’s national FinTech practice group, is one of only four attorneys to achieve Chambers’ highest ranking in the nationwide FinTech: Payments and Lending category, and one of only 22 total individuals ranked. The team was one of only 19 departments ranked nationwide.
“Being ranked so highly for three years in a row based on client and peer input is a reflection of our team’s expertise,” Robert said. “Hearing that our clients consistently rank our team’s FinTech knowledge and capabilities among the top firms nationwide is the highest compliment our team can get, and we take this recognition very seriously.”
Client and market feedback to Chambers noted the depth and breadth of McGlinchey’s capabilities. One client stated, “The McGlinchey team operate in a complex space that requires depth not only in federal law or the law of a particular state, but federal law, the laws of each state, and industry standards. The team has experts across all of these areas who work seamlessly together.” Another client noted, “I have been happy with every analyst that has produced deliverables for us. The timeliness of their work indicates a deep bench as well.”
“We are incredibly proud of Robert and the FinTech team, who provide our clients with the highest caliber guidance in this rapidly-growing space,” said Mark Edelman, Chair of McGlinchey’s national Financial Institutions Compliance practice group. “Robert has built this practice from the ground up over the course of his legal career at McGlinchey. We are proud of the team he’s developed and the internal expertise he’s built.”
Robert’s Band One ranking is particularly notable, as the other three Band One ranked attorneys represent some of the country’s largest and best known law firms. He has also had a rapid rise through the Chambers ranks, having debuted on the list in Band Three in 2020. Robert is also currently ranked (Band Three) in Chambers USA in the Financial Services regulation: Consumer Finance (Compliance). He is one of only five attorneys to be ranked in both FinTech Payments and Lending and in Consumer Finance Compliance.
According to one client “Robert brings to the table an encyclopedic knowledge of laws applicable to FinTechs that he combines with a straightforward, direct-to-business communication style that minimizes the need to translate advice for different audiences.”
Attorneys in McGlinchey’s FinTech practice work closely with technology developers, providers, and users – analyzing the business applications of new technologies, including the regulatory implications of using various algorithms and APIs – to help them comply with both federal and state financial services regulations.
Chambers rankings are developed through an independent and rigorous research process that uses client and market feedback to assess technical legal ability, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence and other qualities. Ranking in any band is a significant achievement.
