McGlinchey, Kouhoupt, Savoie Honored in 2025 Chambers FinTech Guide
Read Time: 3 minsMcGlinchey Stafford is pleased to announce the national recognition of its FinTech practice and of two Members, Aaron Kouhoupt (Cleveland) and Robert Savoie (Cleveland), in the 2025 Chambers FinTech guide.
McGlinchey is honored in:
- FinTech Legal – USA
- FinTech Legal: Payments and Lending – USA
- FinTech Legal: Payments and Lending – USA: Aaron Kouhoupt (Debuting in Band 3)
- FinTech Legal: Payments and Lending – USA: Robert Savoie (One of six attorneys ranked in Band 1)
Aaron and Robert are two of only 31 attorneys ranked nationwide in the Payments and Lending category. Only 55 firms were ranked in FinTech Legal and 26 firms ranked in Payments and Lending.
The 2025 guide marks the fifth consecutive year in which McGlinchey and Robert have been recognized by Chambers as a leading firm in FinTech. Aaron is newly recognized this year, bringing McGlinchey attorneys to 6% of those nationally recognized in the field.
According to one client, “[McGlinchey is] great, they know the industry so well; they have lived and breathed it for decades and have a wealth of knowledge that is so valuable.”
Robert’s Band 1 ranking is particularly notable, as the other five Band 1 ranked attorneys represent some of the country’s largest and best-known law firms and it is the highest possible ranking in the FinTech guide. Robert is also currently ranked (Band 3) in Chambers USA in the Financial Services Regulation: Consumer Finance (Compliance). He is one of only six attorneys to be nationally ranked in both FinTech Legal: Payments and Lending and in Financial Services Regulation: Consumer Finance (Compliance).
“We have worked very diligently to build a deep and comprehensive knowledge base for this industry and are excited about the firm’s continued growth in FinTech,” said Robert, who chairs McGlinchey’s FinTech team. “Being recognized for five years in a row is a testament to the strength of our team of legal and licensing professionals who provide excellent client service.”
For 20 years, Aaron has held almost every legal and compliance position within a bank or FinTech, including Head of Legal at an alternative banking and digital payments company and in-house counsel at a peer-to-peer lending and alternative investing company. He also works with European companies to launch U.S. consumer finance products. Aaron’s Chambers recognition is especially impressive given that he only joined the firm as a Member in 2022 and did so from an in-house position. Aaron also serves as the firm’s Chief Privacy Officer.
“Joining the list of Chambers ranked attorneys so soon after moving from in-house to private practice is a tremendous honor,” Aaron said. “Partnering with our clients to drive innovation and deliver excellent consumer products is something the McGlinchey team does especially well, and I’m honored to be recognized among them.”
Client and market feedback to Chambers noted the depth and breadth of McGlinchey’s capabilities. According to clients:
“As a group, the firm is rock-solid. The complexity and nuance they bring to state licensing surveys and new programme risk assessments are incredible.”
“On licensing, Robert and his supporting team have a seemingly bottomless well of knowledge. Robert has proven time and again to have a deep understanding of complex legal matters.”
“Robert is great to work with and highly responsive. He has a good awareness of the space we operate in and can effectively work with regulators.”
“Aaron is great at scoping risks related to new rules or regulations and has been a very important partner to our team. He’s also served as in-house counsel, which gives him a leg-up.”
“[Aaron] is very business-oriented, super responsive, and will always find a way to meet your deadline and the work-product style of your business.”
Attorneys in McGlinchey’s FinTech team work closely with FinTech companies, banks operating in the FinTech space, technology developers, and a broad range of financial services vendors and other providers – analyzing the business applications of new technologies, advising on the regulatory implications of using various algorithms and APIs – to help them comply with both federal and state financial services regulations.
