McGlinchey Leads “Food from the Bar” Benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank
Read Time: 2 minsMcGlinchey Stafford is pleased to announce the New Orleans office’s participation in the New Orleans Chapter of the Association for Women Attorneys (NOAWA)’s 13th Annual Food from the Bar Campaign, held July 8–21, 2024, benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank.
Food from the Bar is the legal community’s response to child hunger across the country. During the summer months, when children are not receiving subsidized meals at school, Second Harvest and other community food banks typically see a rise in demand. This annual competition among law firms serves as a fundraiser to help the food bank increase inventory and serve more children.
Over the course of the competition, McGlinchey raised $11,467 for Second Harvest. This amount represented more than a quarter of the funds raised in NOAWA’s entire “Food from the Bar” campaign. Overall, New Orleans law firms exceeded the NOAWA’s fundraising goal by raising more than $40,000 for Second Harvest.
“The success of this year’s fundraising effort is thanks to the incredible enthusiasm, energy, creativity, and collaboration from all McGlinchey Stafford employees,” said Mag Bickford, Managing Member of McGlinchey’s New Orleans office. “I am so thankful and proud of each and every member of this office who worked so hard to raise money for Second Harvest.”
As in past years, McGlinchey hosted a friendly in-office competition dubbed the Anti-Hunger Games to raise funds for the campaign. The firm’s New Orleans office was divided into teams, each comprising attorneys, legal staff, and administrators, which competed to raise the most food and money for the cause.
McGlinchey’s fundraising efforts included a sushi-making competition at Tsunami Sushi New Orleans, a disco-themed dance party, food and baked goods sales, raffles and silent auctions, a pie-throwing contest, and more. They culminated in an afternoon of field day-style challenges to crown the winning team.
On July 24, the three firms who raised the most in each size category – McGlinchey Stafford, Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver, L.L.C., and Keller Postman LLC – competed in a “Tsunami Takedown” to wrap the campaign. Each firm designed its own sushi roll, and attendees voted on their favorite to crown one final champion. Team McGlinchey was proud to be named Crowd Favorite and was honored to receive an overall award for Best Team in the Competition, named for former McGlinchey member Erin Fury Parkinson.
