McGlinchey Stafford Sponsors 2009 Oral Advocacy Competition at the University of Mississippi School of Law
Read Time: 1 minLast month, the firm sponsored the McGlinchey Stafford Oral Advocacy Competition, an event held annually at the University of Mississippi School of Law. The competition began with twenty-four contestants, and by Friday, March 27, only two remained standing. The talented and well-prepared finalists argued a complex labor issue in the final round of the competition before a panel comprised of Judge Halil S. Ozerden of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, Presiding Justice George C. Carlson and Justice David A. Chandler, both sitting justices on the Mississippi Supreme Court. After intense oral arguments from both finalists and multiple panels from the bench, the judges declared Jared Martin, a third-year law student, the winner and Andrew Stubblefield a second-year law student, the runner-up of the competition. Jared was, coincidently, the runner up in last year’s McGlinchey competition.
Prior to the competition, McGlinchey Stafford Jackson lawyers Hunter Twiford, John Rouse, Lindsay Thomas, and Stephen Masley hosted a lunch with the judges at City Grocery on the historic square in Oxford, Mississippi. Following the competition and The University of Mississippi Law Awards Day program, the firm hosted a reception at the Inn at Ole Miss honoring the judges, the Moot Court Board and the contestants.
