NOLA’s legal field has long been white male-dominated. This collaborative seeks to change that.
Read Time: 1 minDirector of Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer Eliska Plunkett appeared on an episode of Lousiana Considered from Baton Rouge and New Orleans’ local NPR affiliates about an initiative to drive change in the local legal diversity landscape. She outlined how the group she helped start last year, New Orleans Legal Diversity Collaborative (NOLDC), works to address diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in the legal field.
“We really wanted to foster an inclusive environment that encouraged diversity and trust and leadership, moving people into leadership. We had a diversity committee and we had employee resource groups or affinity groups, but initatives weren’t really getting pushed over the finish line. We’ve really taken affirmative steps to try to make a difference so when someone comes into our law firm, as an employee or a client, they feel that inclusion. That everyone is welcome and they’re welcome to bring their authentic self.” Eliska Plunkett
