Ohio Dispensaries Will Soon Start Selling Recreational Marijuana. Here’s What You Need to Know

Of Counsel, David Waxman (Cleveland) was interviewed by WCPO 9 on August 2, 2024, about Ohio dispensaries selling recreational marijuana.

“You’re allowed to possess two and a half ounces … that’s per day, you can buy up to two and a half ounces,” said David Waxman, attorney with McGlinchey Stafford’s Cleveland Office. “If you want to keep accumulating it you can, but that’s the limit for flower.”

Waxman also told us that you don’t want to be keeping marijuana in your car. Similar to alcohol, you can transport it from the dispensary to your home but taking it to other places could pose a risk.

Taking it over state lines is also illegal.

“Regardless of whether a state has made cannabis legal medically or recreationally it’s still illegal federally … that’s when the federal authorities can get involved. Not likely that that’s going to happen, but they can,” Waxman said.

Ohio’s Dual-Use Marijuana License Applications Available June 7

In accordance with Ohio’s new adult-use marijuana legislation, applications for initial dual-use marijuana licenses will be made available by the Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) on its website no later than this Friday, June 7 – a historic day in the state. The applications that will be made available this week allow medical marijuana operators to apply to the DCC for “dual-use” licenses, which permit future licensees to convert their facilities to handle both medical and adult-use marijuana.
