Struggling Marijuana Industry Eyes Ohio for a Much-Needed Boost

Member Jim Sandy (Cleveland) was interviewed in a Bloomberg article, “Struggling Marijuana Industry Eyes Ohio for a Much-Needed Boost,” on the future of marijuana in Ohio and the likelihood of a ballot passing.

“There is a decent likelihood the initiative passes if it gets on the ballot this year,” predicted James Sandy, a lawyer in the Cleveland office of McGlinchey who works with the cannabis industry. Sandy said in an email exchange that Ohioans have become more comfortable with marijuana in the few years since medical pot was legalized, pointing to a recent poll that suggests almost 60% of voters would favor adult recreational use.

In accordance with Ohio’s new adult-use marijuana legislation, applications for initial dual-use marijuana licenses will be made available by the Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) on its website no later than this Friday, June 7 – a historic day in the state. The applications that will be made available this week allow medical marijuana operators to apply to the DCC for “dual-use” licenses, which permit future licensees to convert their facilities to handle both medical and adult-use marijuana.
