Zelma Frederick Named Junior League Sustaining Member of the Year
Read Time: 2 minsMcGlinchey Stafford is pleased to announce that Zelma Murray Frederick has been named the 2023 Sustaining Member of the Year by the Junior League of Baton Rouge (JLBR). Zelma received the award at a ceremony on Friday, May 5.
“Zelma’s dedication to improving our community is unparalleled, and I am proud to extend my congratulations on this deserved recognition,” said Michael Ferachi, McGlinchey’s Managing Member. “Her spirit of service is an example to us all and I am honored to call her part of the McGlinchey family.”
As Managing Member of McGlinchey’s Baton Rouge office, Zelma oversees its daily management and sets strategic vision for the firm’s Baton Rouge operations. She also leads McGlinchey’s Summer Associate program, a year-round effort to engage law students to work alongside attorneys across McGlinchey’s 17 offices. Zelma supervises the efforts of the Recruiting department and various attorneys across the firm’s national footprint to recruit, employ, and mentor law students over the summer.
“I am so honored to join the incredible group of women who have earned this recognition in the past,” said Zelma. “Learning and leading in the Junior League has been a highlight of my community involvement. I’m so proud to volunteer alongside Junior League members to deliver on the organization’s legacy of community impact.”
In her practice, Zelma advises a diverse client base in all aspects of litigation with a focus on commercial, construction, complex commercial litigation, and collection disputes. She takes a particular focus on counseling clients through the full range of issues in the construction context. In addition to counseling Fortune 500 corporations, Zelma also works with small startup and minority-owned businesses.
An engaged community leader, Zelma has served in many leadership capacities within the Junior League, including as President in 2018-2019. She is also tremendously involved in other organizations, some of which include The Emerge Center and Our Lady of Mercy School. Zelma is a 2021 graduate of the Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL)’s Leadership Louisiana program and a 2017 graduate of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) Leadership Baton Rouge program. This month, she will also be honored as a 2023 Influential Woman in Business by the Baton Rouge Business Report for her visionary professional and community leadership. The Business Report also recognized Zelma among Baton Rouge’s “Forty Under 40” in 2018.
The Junior League of Baton Rouge is an organization dedicated to improving the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The Junior League of Baton Rouge 2023 Sustaining Member of the Year award honors a member who, beyond her Active membership years, exemplifies the mission of the Junior League of Baton Rouge. The Sustaining Member of the Year has translated volunteer training into outstanding community involvement and continues to give back to the League through service and mentorship.
