By nature, I’m a problem-solver, which is the basis of my approach to litigation. I became a lawyer to help people solve their problems, whether arguing in court or helping mediate a settlement. As I see it, my role is to explore alternatives, work tirelessly for my client’s best interest, but above all, resolve disputes, and enable them to focus on their business.
Jessica Johnson is an Associate in McGlinchey’s Financial Services Litigation practice group. Based in our Cleveland, Ohio office, Jessica represents mortgage servicing companies, banks, auto finance companies, and individuals in state and federal disputes, including contested collection, bankruptcy and foreclosure matters, and general business disputes.
Jessica typically handles the entire lifecycle of her cases from inception to settlement, verdict, or dismissal, although occasionally she is brought into handle matters a few weeks before trial. She has experience in all aspects of litigation, including discovery, pretrial motion practice, trial, post-judgment briefing, and appellate matters in both state and federal courts.
In representing her clients, she takes a holistic perspective and approach, beginning with taking the time to analyze each case’s facts, the applicable law, and above all, the client’s goals and the best way to reach them. She assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the case and makes sure the client is fully aware of them. Communication is a priority for Jessica, and she strives to ensure her clients are informed throughout the course of a case.
While remaining in close contact with the client, she will determine the best way to proceed, and whenever possible, try to settle early on in litigation to keep costs down and resolve disputes quickly. If settlement isn’t feasible, Jessica will prepare a roadmap for the litigation that makes the most sense for the client, including a pretrial motion strategy and an assessment of the case’s likely outcome.
As a negotiator, Jessica is effective because she combines hands-on pragmatism with a carefully calibrated assertiveness and a highly detail-orientated approach. As a result, she has a knack for getting to the key issues in a dispute quickly, as well as rapidly determining next steps, which her clients value and appreciate.
